Supporting Education for the Hearing Impaired in Mampong Akuapem, Ghana

In 2021, Limels carried out a charity initiative in Mampong Akuapem, Ghana, focused on supporting the education and empowerment of hearing-impaired students through fashion design and textile training.

Mampong Akuapem, located in Ghana’s Eastern Region, is known for its institutions dedicated to the education of deaf students. While these schools provide valuable academic and vocational training, they often face challenges such as limited resources, inadequate equipment, and a lack of specialised support. In response to these needs, Limels implemented a project aimed at enhancing practical learning and creating better opportunities for students.

The initiative centred on fashion design and textiles, a field well-suited to visual and hands-on learning. Limels volunteers worked directly with students, using demonstration-based teaching methods, visual aids, and interactive sessions to ensure effective communication and engagement.

During the programme, students were taught essential skills including sewing techniques, pattern drafting, garment construction, and fabric selection. They also explored creative textile processes such as tie-dye and fabric design, which encouraged creativity and self-expression.

In addition to technical skills, Limels incorporated entrepreneurship training into the programme. Students learned how to price their work, engage with customers, and manage small tailoring businesses. This holistic approach aimed to equip them with both vocational skills and the confidence needed for economic independence.

As part of the charity effort, Limels provided essential materials and tools, including sewing machines, fabrics, threads, and instructional resources. These contributions significantly improved the quality of practical training and created a more supportive learning environment.

Limels also collaborated with teachers, sharing modern techniques and inclusive teaching strategies to help strengthen local capacity and ensure the sustainability of the programme.

This 2021 initiative reflects Limels’ commitment to inclusive education and community development. By investing in the skills and potential of hearing-impaired students in Mampong Akuapem, Limels contributed to building confidence, independence, and brighter future opportunities for these young individuals.

Limels continues to uphold its mission of supporting vulnerable communities through impactful, skill-based educational initiatives.
